Oracle Database Administrator

We currently have a vacancy for an Oracle Database Administrator working within the Infrastructure Services Competency Centre (ISCC) based at either our site in Samlesbury or Yeovil Site.

As an Oracle Database Administrator you will work with bespoke individual IT systems which are managed using an ITIL Framework and you will be responsible for the investigation of arising issues and resolving these against the defined Service Level Agreements. As well as day to day monitoring of these systems (including patching), you will be expected to act as a Subject Matter Expert to projects within IM&T at BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as an Oracle Database Administrator will involve:

Patching Management of IM&T Oracle estate

Daily checks of systems to ensure stability of services (backups etc.)

Work with other members of the ISCC to transition legacy version to newer supported versions of Oracle.

Identify and resolve issues with applications using database management software and tools to collect agreed performance statistics and carries out agreed applications maintenance tasks.

Works well under direction able to identify and resolve complex problems and assignments and understand when issues should be escalated to a higher level

Provide an interface to and influence department/project team members and the ability to make decisions that may influence the work assigned to individuals or phases of projects

Performs a broad range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine in a variety of environments but applies a methodical approach to problem definition and resolution

Take the initiative in identifying and negotiating appropriate personal development opportunities and demonstrates effective communication skills

Plans, schedules and monitors own work (and that of others where applicable) competently within limited deadlines and according to relevant legislation and procedures

Understands and uses appropriate methods, tools and applications and demonstrates an analytical and systematic approach to problem solving

Absorbs and applies technical information and works to required standards

Appreciates the wider field of information systems, and how own role relates to other roles and to the business of the employer or client

Your skills and qualifications as an Oracle Database Administrator

Degree or Equivalent within IT

Working knowledge of the installation and setup of database instances in order to support customers is essential

Experience with Oracle on both Windows and Linux would be advantageous.

Experience of Using Oracle versions V10 to V19 database management system software and tools to collect agreed performance statistics

Carry out agreed database maintenance (using Oracle toolsets) and administration tasks for both legacy and future projects

Experience in designing and implementing Oracle systems to a specific set of requirements

Working Knowledge of RMAN systems

Oracle licencing understanding would be advantageous
