Would you like to play a pivotal part in the delivery of Support Information Documentation for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship Program? We currently have a vacancy for a Technical Author at our site in Glasgow or Portsmouth. Training in this field can be provided for the right individual.

 

 

As a Technical Author, you will contribute to the development and delivery of Support Information Documentation for the entire ship, in the form of an Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETP). The IETP will inform Royal Navy staff how to safely operate, maintain, diagnose and repair all T26 systems and equipment fitted to the ship.

 

This role will provide you with an exciting opportunity to work alongside suppliers worldwide in the development of the UK's most advanced generation of global combat ships.

 

Your main responsibilities as a Technical Author will involve:

 

 

Liaising with Supply Chain to arrange and manage meetings with equipment suppliers to ensure they will deliver to the requirements placed on them.

 

Review supplier deliveries against their contracted requirements and coordinating reviews with other Support and Engineering functions to ensure they have been met.

 

Producing production specifications for sub-contracted production and effectively managing the lifecycle of the sub-contracted packages.

 

Responsibility for managing support information specific subcontractors, in collaboration with the Supply Chain team, to ensure timely, compliant deliveries.

 

Manage technical documentation in a Common Source Database (CSDB) environment through to IETP creation.

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Practical experience in production and authoring of technical documentation

 

 

Experience using/implementing S1000D, SGML, XML

 

HNC/ HND/ Degree or equivalent level qualification in relevant discipline

 

Good communication skills enabling technical discussions with internal customers and suppliers.

Desirable:

Engineering Background, Mechanical/Electrical/Weapons

 

 

Experience using authoring packages (Arbortext/FrameMaker etc.)

 

Experience of working within a CSDB
