In the next year we are undergoing an exciting transition of some of our applications and databases from an internal network to the cloud (Azure).

The job includes supporting the development of an interactive visual demonstration system of track related data displayed on a map as part of a European initiative. The application is likely to be developed in C# operating on a SQL Server database, or possibly as a WebApp using ASP.NET Core MVC 2.

The successful applicant will have experience in object-oriented software development, ideally C#, and be conversant with the software life cycle.

Company

Network Rail has the fastest growing railway in Europe and there are more people travelling by rail today than at any point since the 1920s. In fact, there are now a million more trains running every year than there were just five years ago.

Britain relies on rail. We operate 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts, 17 major stations, 8,200 commercial properties and 2,500 stations leased to train operators.  Every day Network Rail gets 3 million people to their destination and thousands of tonnes of goods moved around the country. Rail is a greener and safer mode of transport so it's no surprise that our railway has seen passenger numbers increase more than 40% in the past decade alone. These numbers are expected to double by 2034. That means we have to run more trains, more often and more efficiently. And we need even more talented people on board to efficiently meet that challenge.

Our future is equally bright. We're in the midst of the largest expansion of our network since the railway boom of the 19th Century. This is one of the most exciting periods in the history of the railway. And you could be right at the heart of it.

To keep up with our growing network, we need to ensure that we’re always looking for the best and brightest candidates to join us. If you’re ready to shine, ready to launch a career where you’ll see real impact on the UK’s rail industry, and ready to challenge yourself with the support of Network Rail, take a look at what our scheme can offer you.
