As an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll be working with systems designers and engineers who are among the finest in their field, and you’ll work with leading-edge technology and equipment.

About the programme

Our three-year Engineering apprenticeship is designed to give you the best start to your career, providing you with the chance to get involved in the whole engineering process. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience in a wide range of progressive tech, while also working with forward-looking customers and design engineers. You’ll have the freedom to be creative, and develop the necessary skills to deliver genuine results. And you’ll gain the breadth and depth of experience needed to become a vital part of our future.

Your time will be split between college and on-the-job training at HMGCC. That way, you’ll develop a solid foundation of practical skills and technical knowledge. In fact, the whole apprenticeship is based on blended learning through classroom training, and various mentored work placements. We’ll even fund your membership with a professional organisation such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The future

When you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you’ll achieve a nationally accredited Engineering Technician apprenticeship. This will give you a BTEC Level 2 foundation competence, BTEC Level 3 development competence, and a BTEC Level 3 development technical knowledge qualifications.  You’ll be offered a career at HMGCC as an Engineer Technician, taking either the Electronics or Mechanical Manufacturing pathway. No matter where you find yourself at HMGCC, we’ll continue to invest in the development of your skills and knowledge. In fact, if you have the potential and motivation, you’ll find boundless opportunities to progress.

About you

You’ll come to us with 4 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade A* to C or 9-4, which includes English, maths and science or a technical based subject such as engineering or product design. Alternatively, you’ll have a relevant L2 Intermediate Apprenticeship. A keen interest in engineering is important, demonstrated through your hobbies or projects completed at home or college, and you’ll have good manual dexterity. In addition, you’ll have bags of curiosity and be professional, honest and reliable. you’ll also be a resourceful thinker; passionate about technology and eager to work with others to achieve your goals.

To apply for one of our 2020 apprenticeships, you must be 17 years and 6 months old on or before 28th February 2020. There is no upper age limit.

To be considered, you must be a British citizen and have lived in the UK for eight of the last ten years. In addition, one of your parents must be a British citizen, or have substantial ties to the UK.
