Principal Manufacturing Engineer

Would you like to play a key role within the Submarine Manufacturing Engineering team? Due to a period of growth, we currently have several opportunities for Principal Manufacturing Engineers within the following disciplines at our site in Barrow-in-Furness:

    Manufacturing Build PlanningBuild Line SupportDimensional ManagementBuild StrategyAssurance and GovernanceJig and Tool

These roles will provide you with an opportunity to work with a wide range of responsibilities and disciplines, offering the opportunity to develop into more specialised areas. You will also have the chance to influence and embed manufacturing engineering into the business.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer will involve:

Leading and managing a team; planning and co-coordinating their activities to meet departmental and business requirements, including responsibility for training and development

Providing specialist advice, product or process knowledge, to meet output requirements

Utilising innovation and creativity to solve manufacturing issues and implement continuous improvement

Managing scheduling, planning, budgets, performance, task management, delegation, activity delivery, configuration control stages and detailed gate reviews, as well as providing governance of outputs prior to formal release

Chairing technical meetings and reviews (as necessary), that support the Manufacturing Engineering end deliverables

Liaising with and managing stakeholders, including internal and external customers, as appropriate

Utilising appropriate tools (hardware, software and process etc.) to deliver the necessary outcomes, such as Life Cycle Management, Production Systems etc.

Acting as a technical lead for a sub-discipline area and acting as an approved signatory

Providing supporting information to Senior Management to determine the team resourcing requirements and maintaining the correct staffing levels in line with the agreed Engineering Plan

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

Essential:

Background in either Manufacturing Engineering or Design Engineering

Degree or equivalent in STEM subject

A good understanding of Manufacturing Engineering

Desirable:

Understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems

Material Requirements Planning Toolset experience

Manufacturing experience, multiple methods/ techniques

Charted Engineer or evidence of suitable qualifications and experience enabling CEng to be achieved

You will also have the ability to deliver results within timescales and cost (with safety considerations first at all times). You will be a natural communicator, who is able to successfully build and maintain working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
