T45 EPG - Principal Mechanical Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the Engineering Project Group (EPG), delivering professional engineering services to Warship Support in the areas of Naval Marine Mechanical Equipment and Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a T45 EPG - Principal Mechanical Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

 

 

As an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be providing integrated in-service engineering capabilities for both existing and new build platforms in order to enable provisions to both the Royal Navy and International navies alike, alongside Prime contractors and OEM's.

 

This role will provide you with the opportunity to put your technical skills into practise in order to carry out varied work across the engineering lifecycle, alongside your wide range of responsibilities.

 

Your main responsibilities as a T45 EPG - Principal Mechanical Engineer will involve:

 

Undertaking and routinely leading others in activities across the breadth of the engineering lifecycle to support in-service Naval Marine Platforms. These include:

 

Problem understanding and root cause analysis, requirements/acceptance development, feasibility studies, and concept design and engineering analysis activities

 

Equipment and system design definition to critical design review (CDR) maturity in line with all relevant governance processes and technical/safety/quality requirements

 

The integration, commissioning, test, trial and acceptance of design solutions

 

Providing mechanical engineering capability across a broad set of challenges to meet the needs of specific naval platforms, the EPG team and the customer programme.

 

Defining equipment/system technical requirements and acceptance routes.

 

Undertaking technical feasibility and concept studies for modifications to marine mechanical equipment and systems.

 

Undertaking design substantiation via calculation for marine mechanical systems and equipment.

 

Assessing and managing the integration of solutions with other engineering equipment/systems across the platform.

 

Working to the requirements of the BAE Systems Engineering Lifecycle Governance processes.


Your skills and qualifications:

 

Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.

 

 

Holding a chartered or professionally registered (IEng) Engineering status/qualification, or working towards or willing to work towards.

 

Have a wide range of engineering theory/technical knowledge which can be used to support findings and recommendations.

 

Experience of mechanical simulation/analysis of structures, fluids and heat transfer.

Knowledge and experience of SHE best practice.
