Support Engineering (Database and Systems Engineers)

Would you like to work within the Data Integration team supporting the Type 45 Destroyer and Queen Elizabeth Class ships? We currently have vacancies for Database and Systems Engineers at our sites in Filton and Portsmouth.

As a Database and Systems Engineer, you will be part of a team of support engineers undertaking the integration of logistics and technical data within the logistics applications enabling the:

  • Configuration, build, and delivery of the technical information supporting both classes of ships.
  • Providing support to the operation of the Data Integration Service, including database management, problem solving and provision of accurate and timely reports to support the integration activities.
  • Providing support to the waterfront and ships in resolving issues with equipment/systems logistics and technical data.

This role will provide you with future career opportunities which could include progression to senior engineer level, as well as the chance to be supported in obtaining chartership.

Your main responsibilities as a Database and Systems Engineer will involve:

Working on and completing work packages to the required service quality checks ensuring data integration is accurate

Updating and maintaining the databases to support the technical data output and Ship delivery schedules

Assisting in other areas of the department as and when required

Liaising with other departments across the business

Skills and qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in the application and use of an Logistic Support Analysis Record (LSAR) application. EAGLE iLog or EPS is preferred but not essential.

Knowledge and understanding in the use of Standard Query Language (SQL) and Relational Database Management System (RDBMS).

Oracle database administration knowledge and experience is desirable.

Experience in an engineering or computer science related discipline or have equivalent practical experience in a similar role within another organisation

Knowledge of the Eagle iLog/EPS product is preferred but full training will be provided

What we're looking for in you:

HNC/HND or a degree in engineering or computer sciences would be desirable but not essential.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a style appropriate to the audience to convey facts and ideas clearly, accurately, concisely and persuasively.

Good communication skills enabling technical discussion with customers, colleagues and suppliers.

Flexible in response to changes.

Computer literate.
