Human Factors Engineer

Would you like to work within the COMAH Team supporting and focusing on human factors and identifying the human element of failures? We currently have a vacancy for a Human Factors Engineer at our site in Glascoed or Radway Green.

As a Human Factors Engineer, you will have a significant input into the Basis of Safety documentation, ensuring that manufacturing processes are carried out safely by identifying and understanding human risks and implementing the necessary controls to ensure process risks are As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) in compliance with the COMAH Regulations 2015.

You will be responsible for the development, review and continuous improvement of, but not limited to; Standard Operating Procedures, Safety Critical Task Screening and Human Failure Analysis.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on one of the most complex sites within the UK, with the ability to further develop your skills and knowledge in process safety and COMAH management.

Please Note: This role is a one year fixed term contract

Your main responsibilities as a Human Factors Engineer will involve:

Coordinating and leading Safety Critical Task screening workshops to ensure the relevant stakeholders have contributed to the Assessment process and have the opportunity to peer review including liaison with the site Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) team and the High Hazard team to ensure best practice is being applied to the categorisation of high hazard risk

Reporting and reviewing findings and recommendations to the Applicable Technical Authorities, agreeing and recording appropriate actions to ensure sufficient safeguards are in place

Performing hierarchical task analysis and human failure analysis

Reviewing and continuously improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Liaising with the Engineering teams to ensure that Safety Critical Tasks are identified through the Risk Assessment process, that subsequent controls are implemented and documented in the process SOPs

Undertaking any reasonable duties in order to support the Basis of Safety

Your skills and qualifications as a Human Factors Engineer:

Essential:

Knowledge and experience of human factors methods involved in safety assessments for high hazard processes

Knowledge and experience of human factors methods involved in the design lifecycle of process, plant and equipment

Experience providing human factors expertise to accident or incident investigations

Familiarity with relevant governance documents and best practice

Experience working within a multi-disciplined team, particularly in conjunction with engineers.

Desirable:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Human Factors/Ergonomics/Psychology

Chartered or working towards Chartership through a relevant institution (e.g. CIEHF)

Knowledge and experience of human factors integration in the design of products and/or processes

You will be able to communicate well with stakeholders of all levels with strong analytical skills.
