The Opportunity

An opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join the Complex Warheads Centre of Excellence team in Stevenage.  The role provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to demonstrate their ability to manage a complex and important part of a major missile programme.
 
What are we looking for?

Essential
  • Substantial, demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good engineering judgment. This will involve understanding of the future implications of the results, and an appreciation of the issues associated with the overall weapon system performance.
  • A passion to achieve success
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills supported by office IT software skills.
  • Application of appropriate personal behaviours including self-motivation, initiative, leadership, adaptability, planning and organisation.
  • Ability to travel in the UK and Europe on a regular basis.
Desirable
  • Ideally degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline with relevant working experience.Engineering experience in defence & aerospace products, particularly but not essentially missiles, weapon systems and defence equipment.
  • Experience of warheads/munitions, energetics or fuzing technology
  • Delivering subcontracted subsystems.
  • Understanding of project and budget management, and proven ability to work to tight timescales, within financial and technical constraints.
  • Experience of working with sub-contractors, suppliers and MoD customers.
  • An awareness of finite element modelling e.g. Ansys Autodyn
  • Matlab experience and mathematical modelling

The Role
  • Working as an integral part of the Project team to provide technical and programme management of the warhead or fuze subsystem
  • Act as the main interface with the Equipment Design Authority (DA).
  • Representing project interests in a series of qualification Performance and Environmental trials undertaken to demonstrate compliance with subsystem requirements.
  • Manage the Lethal Functional Chain design within the missile, ensuring that Probability of Kill (Pk) requirements are effectively partitioned between guidance, fuzing and the warhead.
  • Liaising with relevant national authorities and bodies (e.g. Defence Ordnance Safety Group - DOSG).
  • Developing and maintaining a high level of personal expertise of conventional warhead technology, energetic materials, fuzing technology, design standards and practices.
