About the Central Laser Facility
The Central Laser Facility (CLF) is one of the world’s leading laser centres, providing scientists mainly from the UK and continental Europe with access to an unparalleled range of state-of-the-art laser technology. The CLF has around 180 staff and its function - user facility, international research – makes it a very friendly, outgoing, externally facing sort of place. The CLF is building a new laser centre - the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre (EPAC) and is seeking new team members to help to build this and to contribute to our existing facilities. EPAC is an £81M facility that will use lasers developed by our team to drive new types of novel particle and radiation beams that can be applied to a wide range of problems in science and industry. About the role
You will join a team of Electrical and Controls engineers playing a critical part in supporting the work carried out by the Central Laser Facility.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and maintaining Vacuum and Gas Control Systems - PLC.
- Maintenance and development of motion control systems.
- Ensuring safe operation of the electrical equipment in use, issuing the relevant safety documentation, and implementing improvements where necessary.
- Supporting the laser science and experimental teams to trouble shoot electrical issues related to electrical systems.
The role requires the candidate to be self-motivated, to work well in a team and to be able to operate independently.
About You
You will have an HND, or equivalent degree (BEng) in electrical engineering along with extensive experience working in an engineering field, as well as knowledge and practical experience of modern electrical engineering components and techniques.
With working knowledge of PLC ladder logic you should also have experience of working in a supporting role.
To be considered for the Band E position, as well as the above you will have knowledge and experience of project management techniques, as well as expertise in the development of systems from customers’ requirements to commissioning.
