Job description

Successful applicants will undertake a comprehensive course of practical, vocational and academic training including an engineering foundation degree (3 years) and potentially a full degree (5 years). Apprentices will also complete a number of work-based training placements and defence-specific aerospace, nuclear or weapon training at various locations within the UK while completing relevant vocational qualifications in preparation for engineering roles within the MOD Aerospace, Submarine or Weapon programmes.

We are recruiting for up to 30 positions and the Apprenticeship is based in Bristol, although some work and college placements may be elsewhere in the UK or occasionally overseas. Current starting salary is £15,796 rising to £31,250 on successful completion of the degree qualification. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be appointed to a role as an Engineering Manager at either the 3 year or 5 year point, using your knowledge and experience to support and equip the Armed Forces. Because of the classification of much of the work you will carry out during the apprenticeship and afterwards SDA Apprenticeships (Nuclear scheme) are open to Sole British National only. Responsibilities

Candidates must have 5 GCSE grade C to A* of Grade 4-9 (or equivilent) including English, Mathematics and Science / Engineering subect. In addition have or be studying for three A Levels (or equivilent) in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry or other Engineering -related subject plus one other subject. Grade requirements are typically B, B, C. OR a National Diploma (ND) in Engineering at Distinction *, Distinction * level (minimum 112 UCAS points under the new scheme). A strong performance in GCSE STEM subjects will be expected for ND applicants. Please note this is a development scheme and candidates with higher level qualifications in Engineering may not be eligible. All vocational and academic qualifications held or in progress must be declared. Your contracted hours will be 37 hours per week, although some additional study will be required in your own time to complete the academic part of the apprenticeship.
