About The Role

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Projects and Mechanical Engineering Group in our Technology Department. Based at our Daresbury Laboratory, you will be responsible for delivering scientific systems on international collaborative projects.

You will be contributing to technical specification, planning, procurement, construction and development of bespoke multi-discipline systems. You will also be expected to provide innovative and cost-effective mechanical design solutions to engineering problems.

The role will require some UK and overseas travel.

About You

We are looking for a design engineer with extensive mechanical engineering skills and technology experience. You will hold a HNC/HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering with experience in the specification and procurement of engineering systems.

You will have wide-ranging technical abilities to deliver a variety of interesting and complex mechanical CAD design solutions and manufacturing drawings.

In addition to the above you will also have:

  • Excellent communications skills including the ability to explain technical concepts effectively.
  • Good people management and working within a team experience.
  • Ability to provide creative ideas and cost effective solutions to challenging design problems.

The Projects and Mechanical Engineering group is part of STFCs Technology Department, which focus’ on delivering projects for the STFCs programme and facilities. The group works on a wide range of diverse and exciting projects at from the local level up to large international collaborations, such as CERN, the UK Space Agency, Advanced Oncotherapy.
