Do you have a background in power distribution and possess the relevant electrical engineering qualifications to support this?

Have you obtained substantial knowledge and industry experience working on power transformers and their electrical feeds?

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Power Engineer to join the Electrical Services Group which is responsible for the operation, maintenance and enhancement of the Culham site power supply infrastructure, including high voltage and low voltage distribution and control systems.

You will deliver new installations or modifications to existing plant, engage in fault-finding activities and monitor and evaluate technical data associated with this equipment.

Key accountabilities include:

-Plant Responsible Officer (PRO) for major power transformers and their feeds that form part of the power supplies for MAST-U and JET facilities.

-Provide and apply key technical skills related to high current and high voltage power conversion systems.

-Technical expert on power transformers leading and scheduling all maintenance, testing and inspection related activities.

-Lead fault finding and plant repair activities in a safe and effective manner ensuring relevant work control procedures are followed.

-Provide staff training on related plant to ensure operations and maintenance staff may fulfil their associated duties.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
-Bachelor`s degree (Hons) in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline). A lower qualification level may be accepted where there is significant experience demonstrated beyond the minimum below.
-Extensive relevant experience in an electrical engineering role with high power transformers in an industrial, hazardous or harsh environment.
-Experience of preparing safety documentation including risk assessments, method statements and using a formal permit system for work on complex, hazardous electrical plant.
-A demonstrated ability to apply technical expertise and manage complex and/or extensive tasks involving others.

Desirable
-Authorised or Nominated Person (Electrical) appointment
-Experience with HV/LV distribution systems e.g. switching, system protection and control and interlocking.
-Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution.

Special requirements:
Other duties may include being a rostered Power Supplies Operations Engineer (PSOE) for the JET or MAST-U experiment.
