Principal Systems Engineer


Would you like the opportunity to play a key role in the design and integration of systems on Future and In Service Royal Navy Submarine programmes at BAE Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer - at our sites in Frimley or Weymouth.


Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is a business area that continues to grow to meet the demands of design, development and supply of technology leading complex systems into the In-Service, Astute Class, Dreadnought Class and future submarine programmes. As a Principal Engineer, you will have the opportunity to interface with various suppliers and internal teams and work at the very forefront of modern technology


Reporting to the System Design Engineering Manager as part of the Dreadnought Combat System - System Design Team, you will be responsible for managing various aspects of the Dreadnought Combat System Design at a high level and coordinating sub-system teams.


Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer will involve:


Leading the coordination of multiple changes originating from multiple sub-systems across the CS as a whole

 

Influencing and coordinating multiple stakeholders to ensure system changes are delivered on time

Tracking and producing metrics on changes to present to senior management a clear understanding of progress being made

Developing and promoting various Management Plans within the system design team as well as across all sub-system teams, ensuring sub-systems understand and address gaps in the overall requirements hierarchy

Analysing and decomposing system level requirements

Supporting the Combat System Technical Authority in the review, improvement and approval of requirement and design artefacts at multiple levels

Ensuring predicted compliance with system level requirements is understood, documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders and routes to address non-compliances are agreed

Developing relationships with multiple sub-systems to ensure requirements are being developed appropriately and that they are responding to the System Design Teams higher level requirement/design artefacts

Supporting the Combat System's Delivery Manager in the update of the Engineering Management Plan


Your skills and qualifications:

Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science).


Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle and be able to apply good systems engineering practices to your work


Knowledge and experience of Requirements Management System

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
