Purpose of job

The primary purpose of the role is to provide technical support in ensuring the through life environmental compliance and sustainable management of AEUK Products, Systems and Services (PSS).

Each year, ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK takes on new apprentices and university graduates.  We are dedicated to developing the next generation of talent in engineering and technology.

We are currently recruiting for the 2020 Graduate Scheme and are interested in hearing from a range of Graduates looking to progress their career in the Maritime Defence industry.

You will be given guidance and mentoring to develop your skills in supporting a range of tasks.

Qualifications and skills

  • A-levels or equivalent. Mathematics and Physics A-levels are desirable.
  • An academic qualification to at least first degree level or equivalent in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Earth Sciences or relevant environmental discipline.
  • Competent in the use of the MS office toolset.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation, or working towards Incorporated or Chartered registration (e.g. IEMA).

Knowledge and experience (will be developed in the job role if not held)

  • Awareness of submarine and ship systems.
  • Awareness of engineering process and documentation.
  • Knowledge of natural cycles, ecological systems and ecosystem services.
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect anthropogenic environmental aspects associated with both the defence and maritime domain and its impacts upon biodiversity and ecology.
  • Knowledge of UK, EU and International environmental policy, regulation and legislation, and their implications for organisations, as well as individual Products, Systems and Services (PSS).
  • Awareness of the fundamentals of sustainability and the associated implications for the environment, society, and the economy as well as for organisations.
  • Knowledge of ISO14001:2015 and the underlying principles of Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques.
  • Awareness of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) including Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM) analysis.
  • Awareness and understanding of project management, budgetary control and reporting.

  • Working as a part of a team in a changing environment, meeting sometimes challenging timescales, and reliably delivering a range of services on time and to budget.

Key accountabilities may include

  • Working for and seeking guidance from the Safety and Environmental Engineer on a day-to-day basis in the development and implementation of Environmental Cases for AEUK PSS.
  • Working as part of a team to support the Product Managers, System Design Authorities, and Technical Leads to ensure that environmental, safety and ILS factors are considered for all PSS at every stage in the product lifecycle.
  • Support bidding activity by providing estimated costs and timescales and writing proposals.
  • Provide sound advice and guidance on environmental and sustainability matters.
  • Uses technical knowledge to offer solutions to problems that are fit for purpose; thinking innovatively and creatively.
  • Monitoring of sub-contractor delivery against requirements and statement of work.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve full SC (Security Clearance).
