Principal Engineer - Electrical - Export Programmes

Would you like to be the focal point for executing and delivering marine systems engineering for our Export Programmes ship design team? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Electrical at our site in Scotstoun.

Following recent successful bids in the export market, the Naval Ships Team have opportunities to join the electrical team to support the Canadian Surface Combatant programme.

You will be expected to complete tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager - Electrical Systems relating to the development and maintenance of the design for the electrical distribution system and support the shipbuilder during ship construction and subsequent inspections, tests and trials through to acceptance.

This is an excellent time to join the ships team as the move forward in the international market.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Develop, document and analyse the design solution for assigned engineering discipline.

Develop and implement solutions to identify customer requirements relevant to the programmes' requirements and development of acceptance criteria.

Assist in the preparation of the engineering schedule.

Support cost/capability trade-off case studies and prepare proposals for review and approval.

Develop Engineering Outputs associated with the electrical distribution system.

Contribution to governance covering LCM, Product Safety, Product Environment, Quality and Legal and Regulatory compliance

Develop guidance and instructions for detail designers.

Your skills and qualifications:

Experience of naval ship design, build, commissioning, acceptance and support

Previous working experience of requirements development and management to acceptance, for design development and for the management of design change

Product Safety and Product Environmental management

Knowledge of integration of marine systems on naval ships from design to acceptance

Product Governance / Assurance knowledge including LCM

Engineering Business Systems and data management experience

The role will require you to be a Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent qualification/experience in supervising engineering tasking

You will have the ability to contribute to a team-based working environment, work with a low level of supervision, lead a small engineering team and mentor younger engineers. You will also hold good interpersonal skills; communicate well verbally and in writing. You will be able to build good Customer relationship and have strong influencing skills with external stakeholders.
