Safety Engineers

Location: Plymouth, Devon, GB, PL1 4SG

Ref: SF23850

Salary Range: £36,525 - £45,045

About the role

We’re looking for several Safety Engineers to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world.

For more than three hundred years Engineers have been shaping the dockyard to ensure it supports the fleet and protects the nation. We need you to help continue this tradition, transforming, sustaining and improving Devonport to meet the demands of the Royal Navy for the next hundred years.

We are looking for individuals to support projects across the Dockyard, from existing Nuclear and Radiological facilities to the design of brand new facilities for the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy submarine fleet.

As a Safety Engineer your activities could include but won’t be limited to: the provision of Nuclear and Radiological knowledge and support to the business; the provision of technical advice on Nuclear Safety Assessment processes and policy; ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and the terms of the Site Licence; the delivery of Nuclear Safety Cases and Licencing Plans; the development and implementation of Nuclear Safety processes and standards.

Help us to create the naval base and dockyard of the future and in return you will receive a competitive salary, good benefits package and the unbeatable quality of life that comes with living in one of the most beautiful corners of the UK.

What do I need to be able to do the role?

You'll be educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and/or have relevant knowledge and experience; you'll be registered as a Chartered Engineer (or be working towards chartered status). You'll also possess good interpersonal skills and be competent in verbal and written communication, with the ability to operate and interface effectively with Senior Managers and internal stakeholders.

What else do I need to know?

The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.

This post may be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks

Passport, Licences/Certificates and Qualification documentation must be provided at interview stage.

What impact does COVID-19 have on the recruitment process?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to ensure that our recruitment processes are regularly reviewed and adapted, as required, to ensure we’re compliant with the latest government advice. We are striving to protect both our current and future employees by acting in a responsible way which reflects the restrictions we may face.

Babcock will be continuing with essential recruitment activity but implementing relevant recommendations to ensure that this is done in a responsible way with consideration of the unprecedented circumstances we are facing.

If you applied to a role which is not categorised as ‘essential’ or which cannot be performed by remote working, the recruitment process is likely to be affected. This may mean that your application may be delayed.

It is unlikely that shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a face-to-face interview in the first instance. Interviews will be held by phone, WhatsApp video, FaceTime (where available) or you may be asked to complete an online interview. You will have advance notice should we wish to arrange an interview with you and more information will be provided regarding the format by the recruitment team.

It is likely that the start date for successful candidates may need to be postponed. Start dates will be provisional and subject to change.

This advice is valid at the time of publication and changing government advice and Babcock working practices take precedence at any particular time.
