Fixed-Term Contract          

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to develop a smart sensor technology for real time monitoring of closed pipe systems for pipe freeze applications. Employed and supported by a team of academic experts from the university, you will be based at Arctic Hayes Ltd’s premises in Leeds.

Qualification we require:

MSc / MEng in Electronic/Communication Engineering (1st or 2:1), Applied Physics, or Mechatronics (1st or 2:1) with relevant or industrial experience). Or Good Honours degree (1st or 2:1) in Electronic Engineering (with relevant or industrial experience). Higher degree is desirable.

Application requirements:

You will have knowledge of embedded systems and sensors design, communication and smart and real time connectivity, and physical science in thermofluids . Specifically covering:

  • Knowledge of embedded sensors design and systems (using embedded sensors and Microcontrollers and/or FPGA)
  • Embedded or low level programming (e.g. C, Python, VHDL).
  • High level of expertise in analogue and digital circuit design and simulation.
  • Experience working with RF and radio access technologies (including wireless standards and LPWAN technologies such as Bluetooth and LoRaWAN)
  • Knowledge of database systems, SQL and some web based programing (e.g. C and/or Java).
  • Power supply design and requirements.
  • Digital Signal Processing.

Other requirements include:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the physics of fluids and thermodynamics of the freezing process.
  • Experience in developing and applying CFD codes through commercial (Ansys Fluent or COMSOL) or open source software (OpenFOAM) to model realistic engineering flow problems, and the relevant computer programming skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information to a range of diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.
  • Synthesise complex data from different sources and communicate findings via written reports and articles.
  • Work independently, manage and carry out appropriate research and respond to enquiries and requests for information from the KTP partners and relevant stakeholders.
