Airframe Engineers, Senior Airframe Engineers

We have great opportunities for Airframe Engineers to work on complex, innovative and world leading projects such as Tempest, Typhoon and F-35 Lightning II. Join us and you will be working alongside other functions to deliver products that will be in service for 40+ years and being continually upgraded to maintain Customers Air Defence capabilities.

We are recruiting at entry level and at Senior Engineer level for the following roles:

Structures Engineers to ensure the integrity of the airframe and covering classical structural analysis methods, Finite Element Analysis Methods, Airframe qualification, Materials qualification support (especially Carbon Fibre Composites), Systems installation, Stress analysis, Airframe build/manufacturing support.

Design Engineers to produce the physical product definition against a set of system functional requirements from multiple sources. The capabilities of Design Engineers comprise of a range of mechanical and/or electrical sub-skills in the creation of solutions to satisfy conceptual, preliminary definition, detail design, verification/compliance, build/assembly and in-service support lifecycle phases.

Aerodynamics Engineers to ensure the design achieves performance and controllability requirements which meet customer operational needs, and safely comply with certification rules throughout the engineering lifecycle. Skill areas to be worked on include one or more of the following: performance & drag estimation, propulsion integration, flight mechanics & handling, flight control systems, loads, aero-elastics, stores release and computational fluid dynamics.

Your skills and qualifications as an Airframe Engineer:

Essential:

Degree or HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in STEM related subject e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics

Experience of Design within industry and/or within course

Experience with numerical analysis and/or creative design techniques e.g. Matlab, CFD simulation software, FEA, 3D CAD e.g. CATIA V5

An understanding of the main phases of an airframe design product lifecycle

An awareness of the importance of operational governance in achieving product integrity

Desirable:

Experience working in a multidisciplinary integrated product development environment

Experience of working with external customers, suppliers and partners

Experience of managing your own Design tasks to meet engineering design requirements and programme requirements

Chartered Status or willingness to achieve

You will be pro-active and able to think creatively, having the courage to challenge and drive improvement. You will be analytical, a natural problem-solver, able to use your own initiative and act independently as required.
