Senior Structures Engineer - CSC

Following successful bids in the international market, BAE Systems are now supporting the Australian and Canadian Navies in the design of the latest frigates. These projects together with the construction of the latest frigate for the UK Royal Navy means that the Naval Ships team needs to grow their team of engineers. We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Structures Engineer at our site in Glasgow to join the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) Programme. You will be working on structural design, working closely with the customer to meet requirements. You will also support the engineering manager to ensure project timelines are successfully met. Ideally you will have previous experience of some or all of the following areas: - Ship Scantlings, Global Analysis - Bending moments, residual strength, Extreme stress assessments, Fatigue Assessments, Finite Element Analysis, Seats design (for major and minor) equipment, Class Rules - Lloyds Naval Ships Rules in particular, Shock, First Fixings or Composites.

This role will give you the opportunity to be involved in the design, build and delivery of state of the art warships for the UK and International programmes.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Structures Engineer will involve:

Contribute towards the production of a complete Structural design solution for contracted designs

Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems

Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development. (Typically, Senior & Principal roles)

Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority

Your skills and qualifications:

Knowledge and competence in ship structural design including the overall and detailed arrangements and the derivation of scantlings

Familiarity with the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules

Ability to assess, check and approve structural calculations, sketches, tools and procedures produced by the structures team

Design experience at various stages within the build lifecycle (concept to final delivery)

Previous engineering experience within the ship design/building industry is preferred


Sufficient breadth of knowledge and expertise of warship design

Previous team leader experience preferred

Meeting or working towards Professional Institute Membership and Chartered Engineer
