Would you like to play a key role in delivering Nuclear Submarines for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have a range of vacancies for engineers, developing and experienced alike, primarily based at our site in Barrow-In-Furness.

We are looking for talented, motivated engineers from a range of backgrounds to support our ongoing Submarine programmes throughout the design phases of the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that we deliver an effective Royal Navy capability and a platform that ensures the safety of its crew. As a Senior/Principal Engineer - Process Development and Governance, you will be responsible for the identification, development, authorisation and deployment of engineering process as well as a range of engineering governance activities in support of multi-disciplinary delivery teams. These activities will include but are not limited to the development of governance plans and the coordination and facilitation of independent reviews where required.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior/Principal Engineer - Process Development and Governance will involve:

Generating, developing and reviewing process documentation following the BAE Systems Governance framework through communication with specialist systems engineers to ensure the documents are fit for purpose and easily understandable by the end user

Engaging in Process Confirmation Audits to ensure processes are being adhered to and are delivering the desired output

Maintaining Configuration Control of Product, Process and Systems Engineering documentation, ensuring necessary qualification evidence is generated and stored in accordance with document creation & retention policies

Organising internal and external reviews in order to generate supporting qualification evidence

Advising Engineers and supporting functional staff on all aspects of Process & Governance

Ensuring that Product Safety is of the utmost priority during all phases of the development lifecycle

Ensuring Requirements are appropriately documented, controlled and that Verification and Validation activity is planned, undertaken and recorded at key points in the Engineering Lifecycle

Maintaining contact with internal and external customers as part of a large technical team, articulating and presenting technical arguments, clearly, logically and simply

Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work recognising stakeholder and customer requirements

Identifying, as well as implementing, opportunities for personal/team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individual are maintained and improved

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Process Development and Governance:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or, Mathematics (STEM)

Significant demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle phases and process development/governance

Chartership or willingness to achieve relevant Professional Registration

Desirable:

Experience within highly regulated industry e.g. nuclear, oil & gas, defence

You will be self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised and still meet tight deadlines. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with the wider team when required. The ability to proactively problem-solve is key to the success of this role.

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
