Engineering Manager - Authorisation Group Deputy Chair (Reactor Test Group)

Would you like to play a key role in the UK Nuclear Submarine build programme supporting the UKs strategic defence objectives? We currently have a vacancy for a Engineering Manager - Authorisation Group Deputy Chair (Reactor Test Group) at our site in Barrow in Furness.

As a Engineering Manager - Authorisation Group Deputy Chair (Reactor Test Group), you will be accountable to the Reactor Test Group (RTG) Chair for the management of the Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) and for assuring the safety governance processes are being adhered to during submarine commissioning; at the BAES Maritime Submarines Barrow Site. You will play a key role in the governance of the commissioning, maintenance and operation of the NRP ensuring the implementation of the Nuclear Safety Case limits and guidance within the Test and Commissioning documentation whilst on the Barrow Nuclear Licensed Site.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity an opportunity to fully understand the Nuclear Site Safety Case and the BAE nuclear, environmental, product and conventional safety policies. You will also have development opportunities within the team and the wider business of Nuclear Product Safety as you will have delegated responsibilities in the assurance that the commissioning programme is conducted in accordance with statutory regulations and BAE policy on nuclear environmental product and conventional safety.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager - Authorisation Group Deputy Chair (Reactor Test Group) are as follows:

To manage and chair the Reactor Test Group (RTG) during the Nuclear Reactor Plant commissioning process during the submarine build.

To ensure all commissioning activities and operations carried out on the submarine Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) and associated systems are conducted in a safe and controlled manner, and fully support the claims that design intent has been achieved and proven during commissioning.

To govern the application of test requirements for systems and equipment associated with the NSRP, maintaining compliance with statutory legislation, Reactor Plant Safety Case and Nuclear Site Safety Case.

To authorise and evaluate all documentation (with the Reactor Test Group) associated with reactor plant commissioning, maintenance, repair, operation and the demonstration of Safety Case requirements.

As delegated by the RTG Chair, convene and chair the Technical Advisory Support Group (TASG) within the site Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (NERO).

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Graduate / Post graduate qualification in nuclear engineering based subject or relevant Nuclear experience

Experience in maintenance, operation and repair in a high hazard environment

Desirable

Qualified Royal Navy Submarine category A1 or A2 Watchkeeper

To have attended Naval Nuclear Reactor Course (NRC)
