Commissioning Engineer Mechanical

Would you like to play a key role in supporting the submarines SMITE (Submarine Machinery Testing Establishment) operations team in one of the UK's Largest Defence Companies? We currently have a vacancy for a Commissioning Engineer Mechanical at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Commissioning Engineer Mechanical, your main purpose is to build, test and trial the Main Propulsion machinery package within a safe and clean environment. SMITE has expanded its operations to deal not only with the Main Machinery Package, but also other various modular builds.

This role will provide you with the opportunity of working towards the next generation of strategic deterrent to RN and our country whilst gaining knowledge in the commissioning and operation of the main propulsion machinery package and there will be opportunities for further development.

Your main responsibilities as a Commissioning Engineer Mechanical will involve:

Carrying out mechanical based testing and commissioning activities involving: Hydrostatic testing, Flushing and Installation Checks

Creation of test documentation including: test forms to allow the above activities to be carried out and trials procedures to allow various trials to be carried out on the MPMP (main propulsion machinery package) during steam testing

Completing test document reviews

Supporting MPMP (main propulsion machinery package) Machinery trials

Your skills and qualifications:

ONC in Mechanical Discipline or relevant experience within propulsion

Propulsion systems knowledge (Essential)

Microsoft office competent

Experience in the use of SAP

Experience of working with propulsion machinery

You will have an excellent work ethic to be able to carry out routine work with limited supervision and hold excellent communication skills as you will be liaising and interfacing with appropriate areas internally & externally.
