Principal Engineer - Nuclear Propulsion

Would you like to be involved in a once in a generation project, designing and providing engineering expertise for the Nuclear Propulsion Systems and Equipment with our Submarine business? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Nuclear Propulsion at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer - Nuclear Propulsion, you will be collaborating with a wide group of stakeholders, including the Technical Authority for the Nuclear Reactor. You will be coordinating and executing engineering tasks, or packages of work and providing guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner within the discipline, taking cognisance of appropriate budget, timescale and quality standards; providing leadership where required.

This unique role will provide you with an opportunity to be involved in a truly innovative, complex and challenging programme from cradle to grave with opportunities for development within the team or wider business.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Nuclear Propulsion will involve:

Undertaking the full range of propulsion fluid system design analysis and/or supporting the development and production of major propulsion equipment through collaborative working with suppliers

Authoring system design documentation including, but not limited to, design descriptions, safety documentation, test and commissioning specifications and design verifications

Authoring equipment technical specifications within area of responsibility

Supporting technical resolution of emergent manufacturing issues

Reviewing documentation, calculations and analyses in accordance with company processes and procedures

Liaising and communicating with client/customer within areas of responsibility

Reviewing supplier deliverables and design documentation

Preparing documentation and presenting at design reviews

Supporting the procurement and equipment acceptance process within areas of responsibility and representing the engineering function at supplier reviews and other events

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Nuclear Propulsion:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in relevant subject e.g. STEM, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Marine Engineering, Automotive Engineering

Experience in rotating machinery and/or machinery design and development or fluid system design

Desirable:

Chartership or willingness to achieve

Background in Maritime/Marine Engineering
