Senior Outfit Engineer

We currently have two vacancies for Senior Outfit Engineers to join the Type 26 team at our site in either Glasgow or Filton. We are looking for experienced Engineers, capable of undertaking technical analysis and coaching small teams.

BAE Systems Naval ships team are currently working on the construction of the latest Frigate for the Royal Navy customer. The Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS) will provide a versatile platform that undertakes global deployments, spanning a wide spectrum of warfare operations and will replace the anti-submarine warfare Type 23s currently in service. From high intensity warfare to humanitarian assistance, GCS is a highly capable, adaptable and sustainable warship, our programme to design, build and integrate the Type 26 GCS for Royal Navy is well underway and the steel cut for first of class, GLASGOW, took place at Govan in July 2017.

You will be working on Ship Outfit Design and working closely with the customer to meet requirements. You will also support the Engineering Manager to ensure project timelines are successfully met.

This role will give you the opportunity to be involved in the design, build and delivery of state of the art warships for the UK and future international programmes.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Outfit Engineer will involve:

Develop Outfit specifications under guidance and carry out Engineering Design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, examples being development of outfit packages and General Arrangements

Carry out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems

Prepare technical equipment specifications; develop designs in line with all specifications and standards and co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure delivery to the agreed specification

Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority

Your skills and qualifications:

Knowledge and competence in Naval/Commercial Ship Outfit design

Familiarity with the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules

Ability to assess, check and approve calculations, sketches, tools and procedures produced by the Outfit team

Design experience at various stages within the build lifecycle (concept to final delivery)

Previous engineering experience within the ship design, ship-building industry is preferred

Management of Suppliers

Desirable:

Sufficient breadth of knowledge and expertise of warship design

Meeting or working towards Professional Institute Membership and Chartered Engineer
