The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen to lead the MBDA EE&F UK Environmental Facilities Team, with responsibility for providing safe, effective and reliable environmental test facilities, capable of delivering all current and future mechanical / climatic environmental test requirements.

What are we looking for?

  • Strong technical background in all aspects of environmental test facilities.
  • HND or equivalent technical qualification desirable, but not essential.
  • Expertise in writing accurate records.
  • Effective communication, planning, leadership and management skills (team size typically 7 engineers at various levels with a range of experience and knowledge).
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of equipment and relevant legislation (PUWER, LOLER and FGAS regulations)
  • Basic knowledge of environmental test standards with respect to test facilities (e.g. DEF STAN 00-035 & MIL STD 810).

The Role

Team Related:
  • Accountable to the Head of Mechanical and Climatic Test for leading the delivery of reliable environmental test facilities (e.g. through preventive maintenance, servicing and emergency repair strategies / plans) within timescale, budget and to the necessary standards.
  • Responsible for performance and development of assigned team and associated contribution ratings through workload planning, risk management, 1-2-1s, Personal Development Discussions etc.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding all aspects of environmental test facilities with all stakeholders, e.g. Department Head, facilities team, EE&F Projects Department, MBDA Facilities Management, MBDA SHE Department, external suppliers / contractors, MBDA Finance / Purchasing Departments and ISV etc.
Technical / Role specific:
  • Accountable for ensuring team adherence to all legislative documentation (e.g. HSAW Act, PUWER, LOLER and FGAS) and all other applicable regulations / procedures at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with the EE&F Safety Liaison Officer to ensure safe working practices and associated Risk Assessments are in place.
  • Accountable for facilities maintenance budgets.
  • Lead facility failure investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and preparation of reports with recommendations for resolution / prevention.
  • Lead and support the development, improvement and upkeep of environmental facility related activities (e.g. maintenance / repair / spares policy, processes and procedures including identification of appropriate spares holding).
  • Responsible for ensuring that effective processes for the procurement of new equipment / facilities are established, maintained, followed and recorded e.g. detailed Procurement Specifications, cost/benefit analyses, supplier evaluations etc.
  • Involvement throughout the product lifecycle provides a unique insight into all aspects of weapon system development where you and your team can make a difference.

  • Your team currently consists of seven dedicated and committed people having various levels of experience and conduct a variety of roles ranging from equipment maintenance / repair to calibration and test fixture design.
