Diagnostics Integration Scientist

Location: Reading/ Basingstoke area

Would you like to use your skills to play a key role in developing and deploying scientific equipment to support characterisation of a wide range of challenging materials such as organics, inorganics and actinide metals? If so, the Materials Characterisation Team have a range of exciting opportunities available in instrumentation design for experienced hires.

Applying your expertise, you will work alongside materials experts, identifying areas where materials knowledge gaps exist and then develop and implement bespoke equipment and software that enables new data to be obtained. This role will also entail assessing the current materials characterisation process that are performed within Materials and Analytical Science, identifying opportunities to improve data quality and experimental throughput through automation.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience or knowledge in the field of control and instrumentation, automation, data acquisition and sensors.

It is desirable that you can demonstrate the following:

  • Degree level knowledge of a relevant scientific / engineering
  • discipline or equivalent science / engineering experience
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience in designing and assembling scientific equipment/instrumentation
  • Experience in automation and programming of equipment using
  • LabVIEW, C++ etc
  • Experience in process development and process improvement

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role, be willing and able to work in designated areas to working patterns.
