Principal Combat Systems Underwater Sensors Engineer

Would you like to be an integral part of the next generation Global Combat Ship (GCS), managing the integration of complex Combat Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Combat Systems Underwater Sensors Engineer at our site in Scotstoun.

Anti-submarine warfare is one of the prime functions of the Type 26 GCS. As a Principal Combat Systems Underwater Sensors Engineer, you will be contributing to the engineering design of its Underwater Sensor Systems - bow mounted and towed sonar systems - and to the integration of the T26 Underwater Sensor Systems, supporting with the installation, commissioning, setting to work, trials and acceptance.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the design of key systems on the next generation anti surface warfare frigate, from design stage through to sea trials. You will also have the opportunity to develop effective partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders including customers, suppliers and other internal teams.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Combat Systems Underwater Sensors Engineer will involve:

Working with the key customer (MOD) being a conduit between the customer and the equipment manufacturer for both purchase systems and MOD supplied systems (GFX - government furnished - equipment)

Understanding the requirements of each system and how they will be demonstrated through validation and verification activities

Providing technical input into procurement, design reviews, installation, test, trials, acceptance and engineering change activities

Reviewing and confirming conformance of engineering documentation

Understanding equipment interfaces and the scope of the system

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Combat Systems Underwater Sensors Engineer

Essential:

Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)

Demonstrable knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work

Experience in more than one phase of the product design lifecycle including validation & verification

Experience of integration, installation, test, trial and acceptance of equipment

Desirable:

Experience of Underwater Sensors Systems equipment in a Naval environment together with good knowledge of Combat System interface requirements

Good working knowledge of application of sonar systems

Experience leading teams
