Are you experienced in managing engineering infrastructure and teams in a water environment? Are you looking for a permanent rewarding opportunity to lead and shape a team responsible for historic and modern hydraulic, electrician and mechanical infrastructure?

Bristol City Council is seeking an experienced Engineer to lead their Docks Engineering team and continue this important work.

As one of the country’s largest core cities, Bristol is a vibrant, historic and multi-cultural city. Its harbour has existed as long as the city has, with its 19th Century ‘floating harbour’ being a feat of engineering and home to Isambard Kingdom Brunel. From its inception and far into its future, high quality engineering is critically important to safeguarding and helping grow the city.

You will ensure the docks machinery, equipment and infrastructure is operated and maintained safely and effectively on behalf of the Harbour Authority.

You will provide:

  • An efficient, safe & effective Head of ‘Engineering’ function within the City Docks
  • Professional & practical expertise and strategic direction to engineering & dredging matters
  • Work programmes for their team and contractors, managing maintenance and capital works as needed and existing staff and budgets; and helping recruit and procure additional resources to ensure the docks infrastructure is fit for purpose.

You will need a proven track record of significant related industry experience with a working knowledge of and skills in mechanical/hydraulic/marine/electrical maintenance in a docks environment. This must include understanding of Health & Safety procedures and NEBOSH or equivalent accreditation, and also demonstrable ability of risk assessments and management in a dock’s environment.
