Human Factors Engineer

Would you like to work within a multidisciplinary Human Factors (HF) team carrying out diverse tasks including long-term strategic projects, applied studies and consultancy support for internal and external clients? We currently have a vacancy for a Human Factors Engineer at our site in Yeovil.

As a Human Factors Engineer, you will be supporting Defence Information (DI) projects though all lifecycle phases. This could range from projects supporting design of next generation fighter aircraft; design of interface technologies for the British Army; to undertaking cutting edge research as part of the Human Social Sciences Research Capability (HSSRC).

This role will provide you with an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and business development activities across a diverse range of user groups with opportunities for development within the Air or wider business.

Your main responsibilities as a Human Factors Engineer will involve:

Providing Human Factors (HF) integration and engineering services to support the design and delivery of DI products and services

Supporting software/hardware design e.g. through generation of prototypes, reviewing the HF elements of system and subsystem documentation

Planning and executing HF assessments

Application of Human Factors standards e.g. Def Stan 00-251, ISO 9241

Supporting research opportunities as required e.g. experiments, literature reviews, conducting analysis and producing HF reports

Your skills and qualifications as a Human Factors Engineer:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Human Factors/Ergonomics/Psychology

Experience of applying human factors methods in the Defence and/or commercial sectors e.g. Task Analysis, prototyping

Demonstrable understanding of the systems engineering process and the integration of HF activities within the lifecycle

Desirable:

Familiarity with Defence Standards, military standards and commercial standards

You will be able to communicate well with stakeholders of all levels with strong analytical skills.
