Senior or Principal Engineer - Human Factors

Would you like to play a key role in the implementation of Human Factors in Submarine Design and the in the design of Submarine Build Facilities? We currently have currently vacancies available for Senior and Principal Engineers - Human Factors to join the team at our site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

As a Human Factors Specialist, you will gain exposure to a wide variety of Human Factors challenges across both Submarine and Site/Facilities and Operational Programmes of work, in a team which is dedicated to optimising the design of complex products and systems to ensure the safety, wellbeing and performance of BAES Systems and Royal Navy's end users.

This will include design and assessment of the work place, accommodation and habitable environments, Control Room and Work Station design, Experimental design including User Trials and Interface design using Human Factors disciplines of Anthropometry, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Human Reliability Assessment (HRA). This role will give you the opportunity to enhance your skills in all areas of Human Factors, influencing the design of Submarines, complex systems and site facilities to ensure they are optimised for their intended users, improving usability, safety and crew / operator wellbeing.

You will be part of a large Human Factors department, reporting to the Human Factors Engineering Managers and you will be required to work closely with stakeholders including Engineers, Designers, Safety Case Teams, End Users (Operators) and Client Representatives.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Human Factors will involve:

Undertaking Task Analysis - breaking down operator tasks to identify issues with design, systems, processes, and identify opportunities for error prevention

Conducting Workload Analysis / Assessment of Situation Awareness to optimise operator performance through design

Undertaking Human Reliability Analysis (Qualitative and Quantitative) and Human Factors support to the Safety Case

Conducting Experimental design - planning and conducting User Trials and HF assessments of the developing design, optimising user interaction

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) development and assessment

Conducting Human Machine Interface reviews

Workplace / workspace assessment including anthropometry

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Human Factors:

Essential:

Degree in Human Factors/Ergonomics/ Psychology / or other relevant discipline

Experience in Stakeholder engagement and management

Experience in adopting Human Factors methodology such as Task Analysis

Experience in one or more HF disciplines e.g. Anthropometry, Human Machine Interface, Human Computer Interaction and Human Reliability Analysis

Desirable:

Experience of providing Human Factors advice to a large/complex project

Experience producing Human Factors reports

Experience in writing Human Factors Integration Plans

Experience in managing a Human Factors Issues Register
