Senior Naval Architect

Would you like to be involved in providing governance and oversight of Naval Architecture decisions that affect the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, T45 Destroyers, T23 Frigates or Hunt Class Minehunters? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Naval Architect at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Senior Naval Architect, you will contribute specialist knowledge in naval architecture, ship structures and outfit, supplying advice and support into the Warship Technical Authority (WTA), ship delivery team and other functions.

This dynamic role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work across a broad set of challenges to meet the needs of BAE Systems Warship Support, MoD DE&S and the Royal Navy to deliver availability of safe and capable warships.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Naval Architect will involve:

Applying a breadth of knowledge and experience and providing technical advice on all aspects of naval architecture and structures issues at a platform level

Supporting the technical interface on all day-to-day matters associated naval architecture and structural engineering issues on the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers and other classes with the customer, alliance partners and key supply chain OEM's

Supporting the provision of authoritative evidence to demonstrate that design change has been holistically integrated and ensure that the design intent has been maintained

Ensuring that the platform inputs to the Safety Case have integrity and are comprehensive, coherent and consistent

Collecting and collating evidence for Naval Authority Certification submissions

Identifying and proposing opportunities for improvement of platform design

Providing feedback on data quality and associated risks

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Naval Architect:

Essential:

Degree/HND or equivalent qualification or experience in Naval Architecture/Ship Science/ Structural Engineering

Knowledge and understanding of ship or marine structure design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions

Experience working with Class Society/Naval Authority/Flag State rules

Desirable:

Experience of warship or submarine design

Knowledge and understanding of working with the Ministry of Defence and/or Royal Navy

Strong CAD skills

Chartered Engineer or willingness to work towards CEng registration
