Principal Engineer - Product Environmental

Would you like to provide environmental expertise and advice to one of the most complex engineering programmes currently underway in the UK? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Product Environmental at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer - Product Environmental, you will be responsible for conducting and managing environmental assessments, compiling environmental evidence, production and maintenance of Product Environmental documentation and authoring Environmental Case Reports. You will also be involved with the implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System, providing advice and guidance to engineering teams and liaising with multiple key stakeholders including industry partners.

This role will provide you with the unique opportunity to be involved in a pioneering approach to evaluating, minimising and mitigating the environmental impact of the next generation of submarines throughout its lifecycle and your professional development will be fully supported by the business to achieve chartered status.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Product Environmental will involve:

Undertaking product environmental activities that are aligned with environmental documentation including maintenance of processes and toolsets to generate robust evidence for the Environmental Case

Ensuring the Environmental Management System is appropriate, managed and demonstrates continual improvement and that environmental activities are aligned

Managing and reporting of environmental assessments throughout the stages of the engineering life cycle

Engaging and co-ordinating with other functions, articulating, investigating and analysing data and information to bring about environmental change with compelling arguments and evidence

Authoring of Environment Case Reports, bringing information from other departments/functions and creating factual documents to determine the environmental footprint of the submarine

Liaising and coordinating with engineers, other internal departments, collaborating with partner organisations and with the customer

Providing advice and guidance on environmental issues relative to a submarine and supporting relevant working groups as required

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Product Environmental:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in an Environmental or STEM discipline

Demonstrable experience of undertaking environmental assessments prioritising and managing impacts and risks

Experience in collating, reviewing, analysing and presenting sound environmental arguments in concise reports

Previous experience as Lead Author of environmental case reports & environmental management systems documents

Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation

Desirable:

Background within manufacturing preferably nuclear

Demonstrable experience in collating, analysing, and presenting environmental arguments in concise technical reports and documenting evidence to support the production of an Environmental Case

Chartered Engineer or willingness to achieve

Membership of Professional body e.g. IEMA, IES

You will have excellent communication skills and an ability to present clear technical arguments and reports to multiple stakeholders at all levels of management Ideally you are an accomplished environmental engineer with a passion for environmental issues and making a difference.
