Principal Virtualisation Console Engineer

Would you like to play a key role developing a console solution based on COTS technology, with the ability to deploy technical solution for Royal Navy platform? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Virtualisation Console Engineer at our site in New Malden.

As a Principal Virtualisation Console Engineer, you will be undertaking a defined role within SI (Shared infrastructure) related, systems engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements under the direction of the Common Console Team Leader and Common Console Technical Authority.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to see the design and development of a system through to deployment on board the Royal Navy platform. This role also gives you the ability to work on multiple projects and be a part of the project across the whole engineering lifecycle.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Virtualisation Console Engineer will involve:

Carrying out complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability

Carrying out investigations and take ownership of operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team

Preparing specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained

Participating fully in capturing requirements, designing, implementing and testing software for the Shared Infrastructure system with particular focus on the Common Console aspects

Acting as the main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on specific engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Experienced Systems Engineer who has used the following technologies: VMware, VMWare Horizon Views, vGPU & PCoIP

Experience of working within a System Development lifecycle

Experience working within a multi-project environment with ability to interface with multiple teams

Experience of capturing system design in a formal documentation set

 

Desirable:

Exposure to the following technologies is desired: VNC, RDP, Powershell Scripting and Automation

Experience of mentoring and guiding others from a technology standpoint

Experience of the complete development lifecycle - from requirements and design through to implementation and test
