Assistant Technical Authority - Electrical
BAE systems Naval Ships team currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Technical Authority - Electrical to join the Canadian Surface Combatant Programme to be based at one of our sites in either Glasgow, Broad Oak, Frimley or Filton.
BAE Systems' Global Combat Ship has been chosen as the design for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), and BAE Systems, CAE, L3 Technologies, MDA and Ultra Electronics have partnered with Lockheed Martin Canada to supply the Royal Canadian Navy of one of the most advanced and modern anti-submarine warships in the world.
As an Assistant Technical Authority - Electrical, you will be the Electrical Subject Matter Expert. You will support the Technical Authority (TA) in their responsibilities relating to the design, development and integration of the allocated Electrical sub-systems on the and support the delivery of an affordable, capable ship throughout the Design Definition Phase.
As part of the largest Global Combat Systems programme, this is a truly unique opportunity to contribute to an international programme in complex warship design and to learn about the governance of a significant project, working with multi-disciplinary teams and interfacing with the customer at the highest level. With an expanding programme, we can offer many exciting long-term opportunities within Naval Architecture either within the Technical Authority team or within the wider engineering business.
Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Technical Authority - Electrical will involve:
Support to the Electrical TA to ensure that Engineering policies and plans are known and understood by the Electrical Delivery team
Carry out technical analysis and investigations into complex problems, issues and opportunities arising in the Electrical System area to provide clear conclusions, implications and recommend a solution
Electrical System input to the Safety Case Report and Hazard log
Support to delivering the Electrical System Certificate of Design
Technical Reports resulting from directed Technical Investigations
Support to Platform TA in Governance presentations and deliverables.
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Strong background in Naval or Maritime Engineering practices
Knowledge of Electrical System design processes and inter-relationships
Knowledgeable and experienced in the development and integration of Electrical systems
Experienced marine electrical engineer
Desirable:
Experience of working with within the Defence Industry in a joint working environment
Knowledge of Lloyds rules and regulations
Experience of MoD / Customer management and a collaborative working environment
Appreciation of wider Warship platform design and principles of operation
Experience working within the build of a new ship
