Principal Civil Engineer - Site Engineering

Would you like to be part of a new Site Engineering Authority that ensures safe design and operation of site assets supporting the submarine build programme (both nuclear and non-nuclear)? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Civil Engineer - Site Engineering at our site in Barrow.

As a Principal Civil Engineer - Site Engineering, you will be working within the Site Engineering Authority department and will be responsible for supporting life of Assets management - equipment facilities & structures, on the nuclear licensed site, and providing engineering assurance of both new and existing assets. You will work closely with Project Managers to ensure Asset Management and Engineering Assurance requirements are embedded into new build projects. You will also be responsible for ensuring that your assigned assets are safe, reliable, and predictable to meet the short and long term operational needs of the business; which will ultimately drive the Asset Management Plans across Maintenance, Operations and Projects.

This role will provide you with multiple opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones e.g. Implement lean management techniques; develop negotiation skills, develop your influencing skills with engineers/managers across a broad spectrum of BAE departments. Working with some of the country's most exciting structures, you will be part of an organisation which will deliver significant Site change over the coming years.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Site Engineering will involve:

Establishing and maintaining current and accurate knowledge of the design intent, configuration and condition of assigned assets and their ability to meet statutory requirements, business needs and future obligations

Supporting establishing functional requirements for engineering projects, tasks, services, maintenance and acting as the intelligent client on behalf of the customer

Providing advice and technical support to asset owners, operators, maintainers, projects, committees, etc. in support of asset performance, issue resolution and compliance with safety requirements, legislation and relevant authorisation conditions / licence conditions. This will include provision of Principal Designer/Client advice to projects in line with the requirements of CDM 2015

Supporting Design Reviews, for example as a Design Review Assessor

Ensuring, plant and equipment are built, tested and commissioned/decommissioned in accordance with their design intent and all relevant statutory requirements

Advising pragmatic, technically sound and cost effective engineered solutions to address operations, maintenance and project issues

Executing an engineering assurance programme for assigned assets (including review, surveillance and audit of maintenance, operations and projects)

Driving the continuous improvement of asset design, operation and maintenance

Supporting the assessment of the safety/operational impact of design changes

Developing, maintaining and/or reviewing relevant asset performance metrics

Experience with the upkeep of aging Concrete and Steel structures.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or similar

Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status of a recognised institution

Experienced multi-disciplined Site/Civil Engineer with demonstrable experience in the nuclear sector, pharmaceutical or other high hazard, such as (oil & gas) or other highly regulated industry

Experience of design reviews (assessor and/or chair)

Experience of Asset Management and/or Life Cycle Management (LCM) implementation in accordance with relevant legislations
