Senior Engineer - Mechanical

BAE Systems Naval Ships design, build, commission, repair and support a full range of complex naval ships from offshore patrol vessels through to aircraft carriers, giving customers the capability to carry out extensive naval operations. We also support them through the life of the vessels around the world.

Due to recent successful bids in the international market we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer - Mechanical to join our Future Projects team at one of our Naval Ships sites including Glasgow, Portsmouth or Bristol.

As a Senior Engineer - Mechanical, you will be responsible for the design & delivery of the naval ship wide marine mechanical systems. You will conduct activities including feasibility studies, research, design development and solution delivery to meet the specified customer requirements. You will be the main point of contact for this system and will liaise with other engineering stages/disciplines as well as the customer and suppliers where required.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our engineering team as they work on a range of new projects and bids. You'll be involved from the start, providing your expertise with a chance to influence the design of the finished product.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Mechanical will involve:

Developing designs and preparing design documentation in line with specifications and technical standards

Checking own work as well as that of other engineers

Assessing marine mechanical elements of various engineering system tender packs ensuring supplier's designs comply with required standards and mandatory technical requirements

Offering guidance and support related to the marine mechanical discipline

Investigating problems and potential solutions related to the marine mechanical system as part of the design team

Liaising with customers and or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters

Internal and external stakeholder management

Your skills and qualifications:

Engineering degree - chartered or working towards

Marine mechanical engineering experience gained within the shipbuilding industry or from a relevant complex engineering environment/industry such as: utilities, renewables, Royal Navy, manufacturing

Design experience of propulsion systems, auxiliary systems or fluid systems

Experience working in a multi-disciplined engineering environment

Experience working on complex large-scale projects an advantage

You will be a confident self-starter and have excellent communication skills to be able to converse and present to senior stakeholders within our external and internal customers, you will be a good team player who can manage your own workload.
