Who are we?

We are the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) - the UK's centre of excellence for oceanographic sciences. We are a national research organisation, delivering integrated marine science and technology from the coast to the deep ocean and one of the top five institutions of its kind in the world.

What is Marine Information Products and Services (MIPS)?

The MIPS team is responsible for the development of user-friendly tidal modelling and prediction software in a variety of formats:

  • Desktop
  • Web based
  • Mobile app

The software platforms are used across a wide range of industries and by diverse global customers.

About the role

The Head of MIPS will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the group. The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the long-term group vision, ensuring key goals are met.

This is primarily a commercial role, taking responsibility for growing the current revenue stream from MIPS products. Working across the organisation the successful candidate will be expected to define and develop new and innovative data and software products, leading teams to build and launch them into the market.

As well as defining new products a key part of this position will be increasing profitability from the group’s existing portfolio.

About you

We are looking for someone with a strong commercial background, and a track record of driving year on year growth. Experience of doing this with a large software provider / developer would be extremely beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have experience of product commercialisation and the ability to analyse and assess markets.

Leadership experience is essential, particularly the ability to lead through a period of significant change.

The successful candidate will need to work across the organisation to develop new commercial software and data products, so excellent communication skills will be vital. Customer facing experience will also be essential.
