Senior and Principal Engineers - Welding Technology

Would you like to help to develop weld procedures and provide technical authority on boats in build? We currently have vacancies for Senior and Principal Engineers - Welding Technology at our site in Barrow-in-Furness to work within our Submarine business.

As a Senior or Principal Engineer - Welding Technology, you will be executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering activities, working cross functionally across Astute and Dreadnought programmes, liaising with a broad range of key stakeholders.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work on advanced submarine platforms and ensure we remain at the forefront of innovative procedures, working with a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, novel welds and welding processes including advanced automation

Your main responsibilities as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Welding Technology will involve:

Providing welding engineering guidance as well as support to structural and piping areas across the Submarines business unit

Undertaking Procedure Qualification Record development, testing and qualification when approving welding procedure specifications to support process improvements within the production environment

Assisting with preparation and transmittal of welding documentation to production areas

Monitoring weld quality within structural and piping areas whilst reporting findings to internal stakeholders

Investigating and reviewing emerging process technology and consumables for suitability to submarine construction

Liaising with internal departments to ensure welding process control is enforced and maintained

Producing monthly defect reports across all contracts for line management review

Conducting routine process audits within production areas to investigate defect trends and facilitate improvement

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior or Principal Engineer - Welding Technology:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Engineering/Materials Science/Materials Technology

Recognised Welding Institute Qualifications - e.g. European Welding Engineer (EWE)

Demonstrable experience of developing welding procedure specifications

Desirable:

Knowledge and understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous materials used for structural and piping applications

Experience of dealing with weld repairs

Knowledge of mechanised, orbital and/or automated welding techniques

Engineering Council Registration (CEng, IEng)
