Principal Product Assurance Engineer (Strategic Weapon Systems)

Would you like to play a key role in the product assurance of submarine Strategic Weapon Systems (SWS)? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Product Assurance Engineer (SWS) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Product Assurance Engineer (SWS), you will be working as part of the Engineering Product Assurance Department (EPAD) supporting engineering teams with assurance activities, whilst ensuring the product is designed and built in accordance with requirements. You will primarily be supporting the assurance of the SWS, but you may also be involved with other submarine electrical and mechanical systems.

The purpose of the role is to ensure that customer requirements are met, as well as working with the engineering teams to identify any issues that could arise from UK and US interfaces that may have a whole boat impact.

EPAD is an exciting team to join within BAE Systems, and will give you the chance to gain good exposure to all of the different submarine programmes and a range of submarine systems. Future career progression could include Engineering Management roles within EPAD, the engineering function or the Test & Commissioning function.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Product Assurance Engineer (Strategic Weapon Systems) will involve:

Providing the Chief Engineer (Assurance & Safety) with technical and assurance advice relevant to the Strategic Weapon Support Systems (SWSS) Selected Ship Systems (SSS) aspects of SWS

Providing technical and assurance advice relevant to whole boat systems, procedures, transversals and standards that have an impact on Strategic Systems operation, performance and safety

Participating in design reviews and sitting on test groups to provide assurance of the results of testing

Supporting the development and maintenance of the technical and safety assurance programmes

Compiling assurance evidence of whole boat impact through review, surveillance and audit of SWS design, build, commissioning, and certification process, plans, activities and outputs, as required by the Product Assurance Programme and to ensure required levels of compliance, safety, performance and security

Providing assurance evidence, supporting the arrangements for the whole boat safe management of embarked strategic munitions

Identifying and monitoring SWS issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages that compromise or modify the whole boat design intent, ensuring appropriate ownership and management to a satisfactory conclusion

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Product Assurance Engineer (Strategic Weapon Systems):

Essential:

Good working knowledge of Strategic Weapon Systems

Experience from one of the following backgrounds:

  • Royal Navy SWS operator/maintainer
  • Engineer with experience of design/product assurance/testing with strategic weapons systems products

Desirable:

Product assurance experience

Maritime industry experience

Appreciation of Life Cycle Management (LCM) design reviews, audits, change management, design proving, product verification, build surveillance and/or product assurance, qualification activities and issue resolution
