Would you like opportunity to be involved in one of BAE Systems' newest programmes, helping to shape the future of surface warships worldwide? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager, Classification & Certification at our site in Scotstoun or Filton, Bristol.
Following successful bids in the international market, BAE Systems are supporting the Australian Navy in the design and build of their latest frigate. As an Engineering Manager Classification & Certification, you will be responsible for the development within cost, schedule and quality targets, of the product Design Certification suite, whist working closely with Engineering, Supply Chain and Project Management activities to ensure that the Systems and Ship meet their certification requirements and related deliverables.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to influence the delivery of the system engineering outputs relating to design assurance and work closely with senior management and influential stakeholders on one of the largest international defence projects.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager Classification & Certification will involve:
Developing and maintaining the Certification Management Plan
Liaising closely with Supply Chain and Engineering delivery team activities to ensure that Technical Engineering Specifications accurately define certification requirements and deliverables
Collating all certification artefacts required to be delivered to the customer
Managing Lloyds Register (LR) plan approval contract, including ship prototyping activities and negotiating and managing the LR construction services contract
Managing defects and deficiencies to ensure relevant stakeholders from design team, build team, Chief Engineer and customers are informed and work towards resolution
Overseeing LR involvement and progress towards ship certification
Ensuring productive resolution between the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) Customer, LR and suppliers in times of conflict
Liaising with CoA Technical Subject Matter Experts with regards to Certification requirements
Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager Classification & Certification:
Essential:
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in STEM
Experience with the Lloyds Register or similar classification society in the certification of Naval Ships
Understanding of data maturity and information relationships and the ability to apply them pragmatically
Ability to work flexibly across UK and Australian time zones with some international travel
Desirable
Chartered Engineer or in process of applying
Understanding of systems engineering methodologies and processes
Background in safety management
