Principal Environmental Engineer, Submarines In-Service Engineering

BAE Systems Submarines are seeking a Principal Environmental Engineer to play a key role in the Submarines In-Service Engineering (ISE) business based in Filton, Bristol. This team supports the MoD Customer and Stakeholder community in the delivery of safe, compliant, available and capable submarines.

You will lead and co-ordinate aspects of project environmental management and assessment activity, ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst maintaining quality and service requirements.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to influence and raise awareness of product environmental and sustainability issues and there will be a mixture of reactive work, problem-solving, and steady state of work in the programme.

You will be responsible for working closely with multiple stakeholders within the submarine enterprise, with full visibility across the complete lifecycle. This is a live, in-service role, responding to real time engineering issues and you will see the result of your endeavours.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Environmental Engineer will involve:

Provision of a range of PE engineering activities to support Submarines ISE and its stakeholders

Developing, managing and supporting the programme of work for PE management activities and development of documentation including Environmental Impact Registers, Environmental Legislation Registers and Environmental Management Plans

Supporting PE audits internal to Submarines

Interfacing with the Environmental and Engineering expertise across BAE Systems and with other key stakeholders (both industrial partners and MoD customer)

Providing support to Environmental Committees, Working and Assessment Groups and providing progress and awareness briefings to the Duty Holder (UK MoD) representatives

Deputising for and assisting the ISE Safety and Environmental Manager in other related tasks as necessary

Your skills and qualifications:

Possess in-depth working knowledge of environmental legislation and environmental management techniques

Good breadth of knowledge of environmental impacts and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions

Experienced in a multi- disciplined engineering environment

Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Environmental or related engineering related discipline

Knowledge and experience of Environmental Assessment; identifying and managing Impacts, Risks and Opportunities
