Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Mechanical

Would you like to work within our Submarines business that has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Mechanical at our site in Barrow.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Mechanical, you will be working through the Test and Commissioning processes in order to set to work Reactor Mechanical Systems on the Submarine.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in the test and commissioning of a Nuclear Submarine from build process through to operational at sea.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Mechanical will involve:

Working through the test specifications and forms to ensure compliance with each aspect of the test procedure to ensure fit for purpose

Working across Mechanical systems associated within the nuclear reactor area

Taking ownership for your own deliverables, and working without immediate supervision

Being responsible for the Commissioning, Trials, Operation & Setting to Work of Systems / Equipment as appropriate

Providing a support service to Boat Builds, MoD and Commercial Customers as appropriate either on-site or off-site

Being responsible for research and compilation of appropriate documentation around Reactor systems

Representing the Company on Contractors Sea Trials and other outworking requirements including guarantee periods as applicable

Ensuring safe and efficient working practices at all times - including taking indirect responsibility for less senior member of the team around you

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Mechanical:

Previous Test and Commissioning experience with Mechanical systems or alternatively experience of the setting to work of mechanical systems

Awareness of, experience with, authorised documentation, or test standards

HNC of equivalent in a mechanical discipline, or equivalent experience in a Mechanical engineering role

Submarine engineering experience would be beneficial; ideally from a fit, re-fit, commissioning, or decommissioning standpoint

Ideally have experience of Nuclear Reactor Systems Engineering

Cat A or Cat B Nuclear Watchkeeper in the Royal Navy would be desirable

You will have the ability to communicate across different internal and external groups. You must be able to work as part of a larger team and on your own. You must have the ability to work in a shift pattern, including nights.
