Would you like to be part of the Astute In-Build System Engineering team? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer at our site in Frimley.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be a part of the Astute In-Build System Engineering team delivering the Combat System Common Infrastructure design for the Astute submarine programme. You will be working on both upgrade and new equipment programmes at a combat system level across a wide spectrum.

This role will provide you with the ability to gain experience of combat system interfacing of surface and sub-surface sensors. This role will provide the opportunity to work on a high-profile engineering programme, enabling you to interact with several internal and external stakeholders including the Ministry of Defence.


Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer will involve:

Managing and delivering design baseline artefacts for the Common Combat System focussing on requirements and acceptance by the customer

Defining the Astute design baseline products focussing on Physical Breakdown Structure (PBS) and Function Breakdown Structure (FBS)

Co-ordinating and managing combat system requirement sets change control process via the combat system change management process

Ensuring developed solutions are clearly defined, integrated, configured, controlled and delivered, including resolution of conflicts and integration issues that occur through development and delivery phases

Leading the management and development of the system requirements through DOORS, and related assurance activities

Supporting the development of submarine system technology updates and design improvements

Liaising with the Engineering Manager and submarine system Technical Authorities in the development of the requirements and designs

Liaising with internal and external customers to ensure system requirements are adequately supported through planning, installation, integration and trial activities

Ensuring requirements are implemented, and qualification evidence is generated either by the equipment supplier or on their behalf

Providing realistic programme status, identifying problem areas and implementing agreed recovery plans

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Demonstrable Systems Engineering experience, including managing requirements and acceptance activities

An understanding of lifecycle management

Experience of working with the DOORS (or similar) software package for requirements management

Degree level qualification in STEM or equivalent qualification or experience

Desirable

Understanding of DOORs and Enterprise Architect

Chartered, or working towards chartered qualification

You will have good written and verbal communication skills to enable you to work with a range of stakeholders within a multidiscipline defence supplier environment of engineering. You will be self-motivated, with a desire to learn and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while having an enthusiasm for problem-solving. You will also have the ability to multi-task between multiple concurrent tasks at different stages of the lifecycle.
