Would you like to play a critical role in the leadership and development of welding and NDE capability across our Maritime Services division? We currently have a vacancy for a Head of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and Welding Control at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As Head of NDE and Welding Control, you will be heading up the teams that provide NDE services and welding quality control for all aspects of warship and Naval base support. You will represent BAE Systems at a national level, to help provide business input for planning, training, development and engage in cross-functional best practices and technology-sharing initiatives. You will also be the main point of contact for external stakeholders such as, suppliers, customers, classification societies and external auditors.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a diverse and challenging environment. You will gain exposure to all warship platforms and have the opportunity to develop your career within the welding and quality framework.

Your main responsibilities as a Head of Non-Destructive Examination and Welding Control will involve:

Assisting in investigations relating to product failures and processes

Managing the generation of new technical procedures relating to Welding/NDE

Working closely with all areas of the business to enhance skills and customer satisfaction

Advising BAE Systems senior management on all aspects relating to welding/NDE equipment, including recruiting, training, new technology and to make recommendations and create business cases as and when required

Overseeing the development, maintenance and review of the Quality System within our NDEC welding control organisation ensuring compliance with the requirements of our British Standards EN ISO 9001 Quality System

Managing compliance with classification society's rules, British Standards, MOD DEFSTANS and company specifications

Overseeing the development of all safety related procedures, COSHH, risk and method assessments and reviewing of these documents

Your skills and qualifications as Head of Non-Destructive Examination and Welding Control:

Essential:

HNC/ONC or equivalent qualification in a constructive background i.e. fabrication or welding

Previous demonstratable engineering and management experience

Experience of working within quality control

Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages and excellent IT Skills

Previous experience and ownership of budget and financial responsibilities

Hold a valid qualification in NEBOSH or IOSH

Desirable:

Defence industry experience
