Principal Operations Engineer

Would you like to play a key role as an AP (Appointed Person) on the Astute programme lifting process? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Operations Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Operations Engineer, you will be involved in significant operations throughout the build of the boats, playing an essential part of this process, as the complex lifts and lift plans you are part of will ensure that production can flow smoothly.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be directly involved with the build of the Astute programme, with the potential to be involved on future programmes and progression opportunities.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Operations Engineer will involve:

Creating lift plans for complex lifts - you will be working on the boats in order to gather information for the lifting plans

Assisting the lifting teams where appropriate

Creating documents to the best standard possible to ensure safe lifting operations

Working cross functionally with various stakeholders that are involved on the build of the boats

Visiting of sites where appropriate

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Must be an experienced Appointed Person (AP) under the LOLER regulations, able to generate complex lift plans

Competent IT Skills - Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc.) skills, alongside experience with other design software

Proven experience of engaging and managing stakeholders to gather information from various sources and to agree plans of action

Desirable:

Experience in lifting operations as a slinger or crane driver

Proven experience working under pressure in order to meet deadlines

Continuous improvement experience

You will be driven with excellent communication skills. This will allow you to engage with various stakeholders across all levels of the business. This will help to work cross functionally and come up with lift plans, alongside being able to react to the needs of the business within deadlines.
