Aircrew Technical Author

Would you like to work within an established team in our Technical Information Services within the Air Sector providing a support service for the update of Technical publications? We currently have a vacancy for an Aircrew Technical Author at our site in Borough but will consider remote working.

As an Aircrew Technical Author, you will provide a support service for the update of the technical publications, originating and maintaining technical data as either electronic interactive data and/or hard copy publications in support of the operation and ground maintenance of our air-based products. Publications are produced to various specifications such as MIL-SPEC, AvP70 and S1000D.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology which you will be liaising directly with the customer such as RAF bases etc. This position also gives the opportunity to lead the Aircrew team or potential to undertake other roles within Technical Publications or wider teams.

Your main responsibilities as an Aircrew Technical Author will involve:

To provide specialist input to the flight operational and maintenance publications, commonly used specifications and desktop publishing systems responsible for preparing, generating, editing work and qualifying Technical data

Close liaison with all aspects of engineering/flight operations and test through the interaction with engineering and design authority/flight operations personnel and/or the interrogation of contributory engineering databases.

Ensuring delivery targets are met and maintained

Supporting the Aircraft and associated support equipment in ensuring that the publications are maintained whilst providing clear and unambiguous information to enable the end user to operate, and provide local support within the Customer Environment

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential Skills:

Proven work experience within the Aerospace Industry, either Military or Civilian. This should ideally have been within operation/maintenance of aircraft

Proven work experience of preparation, generation and qualification of Technical Data, including quality checks within the team

Demonstrable use of Publications in operating, supporting, servicing and maintaining Aircraft or comparable Engineering Industries

Competent IT skills, in particular conversant with the use of Microsoft Office tools and using Technical Authoring Software Packages

Desirable skills:

Any exposure of working with HAWK aircraft would be highly advantageous

Proven work experience as a Technical Author

A Degree, HNC or equivalent in a STEM subject to compliment any work experience you have

You will have excellent interpersonal skills with emphasis on two-way communication, be a team player with the ability to work on your own to ensure deadlines are achieved. You will have previous experience of mentoring, developing others.
