Would you like to play a key role in the integration and assurance of marine systems for the Type 26 Naval ships? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer at our site in Scotstoun.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be working as part of a team of integration engineers, focused on the integration of marine systems for the Type 26 Naval ships. Your role will involve investigating the integration of the mechanical power and propulsion design, reviewing design documentation, and ensuring marine systems have been integrated in accordance with requirements. As well as power and propulsion systems, you will also work with all of the supporting mechanical auxiliary systems that comprise the integrated power and propulsion system.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to join the team at an exciting time when the design is starting to develop into physical integration of the equipment into systems ready for commissioning to start. Future development opportunities could include support towards obtaining Chartered status, as well as progression into engineering management roles.

Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer will involve:

Reviewing mechanical aspects of the power and propulsion design

Learning from other projects with respects to integration of mechanical power and propulsion, and auxiliary systems

Collaborating closely across the project to understand emergent issues

Troubleshooting of mechanical systems problems

Ensuring continuing continuity, coherency and integration of mechanical systems' design and implementation across power and propulsion and other connected marine systems

Ensuring mechanical interface definitions are maintained in a coherent manner and tested across the system of systems

Providing performance results to deliver acceptance evidence

Assisting with writing and reviewing test forms by providing domain knowledge of design intent into Test Groups and Acceptance Forums

Your skills and qualifications as a Mechanical Engineer:

Essential:

Good working knowledge of marine power/propulsion systems

Proven track record in mechanical design or mechanical integration activities

Desirable:

Degree qualified or equivalent working experience

Knowledge of a range of mechanical auxiliary systems

IEng status or working towards CEng

You will have the ability to communicate lucidly in writing and verbally at all levels. You will be able to negotiate and persuade when required and have proven problem-solving ability.

Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow (will also consider Bristol or Portsmouth with weekly travel to the Scotstoun site in the future)
