Would you like to support the Royal Navy in global operations? BAE Systems Maritime Services delivers end-to-end support to over 50 per cent of the Royal Navy's surface fleet. We currently have a vacancy for a System Design Authority at our site in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.

As a System Design Authority, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and support to the project engineering team on system engineering, architectural, instructional and graphic design aspects of the project lifecycle and project requirements. This role will provide you with the ability to set standards and delight the customer in the products we are delivering, this is a varied role where no two days are the same.

Your main responsibilities as a System Design Authority will involve:

Ensuring the product meets the project risk and requirement constraints

Performing design review activities to ensure that project solution is fully integrated, safe, and fully compliant and delivered within agreed requirements for cost, quality, time and schedule

Undertaking technical reviews, verifying and signing engineering designs to confirm all business, legislative and customer requirements have been met

Supporting the Project and Engineering Managers as required in building customer and stakeholder confidence in the product training systems and their position in the market

Interfacing with and influencing external customers/stakeholders to ensure that the existing projects meet the requirements and acceptance is achieved

Interfacing with and influencing external customers/stakeholders to ensure that change management meets the evolving customer requirements for future systems

Attending periodic reviews to ensure that all issues concerning the project technical governance are being adequately addressed

Providing the final signature on all Design Certificates relating to the role holders project responsibilities

Your skills and qualifications:

Engineering Governance of projects - Proven ability to deliver projects within business constraints and achieving acceptance from the customer and stakeholder community

Demonstration of the application of Life Cycle Management of the production of complex systems (training or operational) systems from conceptual modelling and de-risking activities through requirements capture and system design to implementation, test and acceptance

Technical leadership experience

Good knowledge of requirements management

Understanding of the naval operational and training domain and the end user requirements to ensure that the delivered systems are fit for purpose as well as meeting the project contractual requirements

Degree in engineering subject or equivalent experience

Working towards Chartered Engineer (or equivalent level of experience)

You will be well organised and have a structured approach to the establishment and maintenance of trainer documentation and data, report and specification writing and the preparation of briefings.

You will be driven to achieve high performance, can recognise the need for, and implement process improvements where appropriate. You will also have a flexible approach to engineering management.
