This is specialist engineering role with the DfT’s International Vehicle Standards (IVS) division. You’ll play a key role in developing and delivering government policy for safer road vehicles as well as global vehicle improvements.

The role is wide-ranging and uniquely challenging, as well as being a great opportunity to develop a stimulating career within the DfT and Government. Joining a team of dedicated engineers and working on a broad portfolio of policies, your duties will include:

  • Acting as one of our technical specialists in vehicle standards.
  • Developing policy in areas such as automated vehicle technologies, innovative mobility, lighting, crashworthiness, and child restraint systems.
  • Supporting strategic programmes and research projects to deliver improvements for vehicle safety in the UK and internationally.
  • Supporting on international regulatory developments for safety technologies at the United Nations as well as managing consumer information programmes.
  • Providing specialist advice to DfT Ministers and across Government.
  • Representing UK interests at international meetings and conferences and building useful relationships.
  • Applying specialist knowledge to respond to enquiries from members of the public, the media and Ministers.

We’re looking for:

  • Great communication skills with the ability to build and maintain networks.
  • Highly motivated candidates who can drive projects forwards.
  • The ability to analyse complex technical information and make recommendations based on your analysis.
  • Delivering projects, research, briefings and presentations to challenging deadlines.
  • The ability to plan and organise effectively.

At DfT, we offer our teams an excellent benefits package, including generous annual leave, a contributory pension, flexible working options, a range of family-friendly policies as well as an employee discount scheme. We also offer a range of networking opportunities, coaching schemes from quality providers, as well as strong learning and development programmes.

Closing date: 7 February 2021.
